Common questions
Is self-hosting really free?
Yes. All components are Apache 2.0. There are no seat limits, feature gates, or "open core" tiers - the open source build is the full product. You only pay if you want us to run it or support it.
Do I have to share my modifications?
No. Apache 2.0 lets you modify, extend, or rebrand without releasing your changes. You only need to keep the copyright notice on files you redistribute.
Which AI providers does it support?
Anthropic, OpenAI, Gemini, OpenRouter, and Ollama out of the box. The assistant is provider-agnostic, so you can switch models per conversation or persona.
Are there any usage fees for the AI assistant?
No fees to us. The assistant is bring-your-own-key for whichever AI provider you choose - you pay them directly for usage.
Can I use it with my existing Rails app?
Yes. Each component is a self-contained Rails 8+ engine - drop them into an existing app, or start from the layered-foundation template if you're beginning fresh.
Where can I host it myself?
Anywhere that runs a Rails app. We have deployment guides for AWS, GCP, Azure, and DigitalOcean, but it works on bare-metal, Heroku, Fly, or whatever you're already using.
What's the difference between SaaS and Managed?
SaaS is hosted on our infrastructure - quickest to get started, shared platform. Managed runs the same code inside your own cloud account, so your data and infrastructure stay yours while we handle the ops.
Can I move between options later?
Yes. Same codebase across all of them. Start self-hosted, move to SaaS, have us run it inside your account, or add enterprise support whenever it suits.
